What is adsorption power?

Adsorption force is defined as the force that acts between two objects, such as a magnet and a magnetic material containing iron. The typical unit used to express adsorption force is N (newton). It can also be expressed in basic units of mass, such as kgf (kilogram-force) or lbf (pound-force).

What is load?

Load is defined as the force generated when two points touch, such as a magnet and a steel plate. The load changes depending on the friction, surface conditions, and impact. Sliding load, which can withstand parallel loads such as a magnet and a steel plate and remain without slipping, can also be expressed in the unit of N (newton).

How to measure adsorption force and sliding load

Results will vary depending on the usage environment and measurement method. Therefore, when indicating attraction force as a characteristic specification of a magnet, it is necessary to define the usage environment and measurement method. We define this as when measurements are made using the following measurement methods and environmental conditions.

Adsorption force measurement

A magnet is pulled perpendicular to the vertical axis against an iron plate, and the force when the magnet separates from the iron plate is called the attraction force.

Sliding load measurement

A magnet is pulled parallel to the horizontal axis against an iron plate, and the force when the magnet moves from the iron plate is defined as the sliding load.

Environmental condition

1. The thickness of the iron plate (T) shall be greater than the thickness of the magnet (H).

2. The area of the iron plate shall be at least 3 times (300%) the area of the magnet.

3. The surface of the iron plate shall be flat with no irregularities and no coefficient of friction.

4. The magnet shall be placed in the center of the iron plate.

5. The material of the iron plate shall be pure iron (Fe).

6. There should be no gap between the iron plate and the magnet.
